Rare & original Harpers Ferry Model 1816 U.S. flintlock service musket, .69 caliber with 42” barrel, Correct markings with top tang stamped “1838”, left rear barrel stamped with “VP” proof marks with eagle head, lockplate stamped with crisp American Eagle/US & “HARPERS/FERRY/1838” stamped vertically behind hammer. Manufactured in 1838 and converted from flintlock to percussion most likely by an arsenal for civil war service. Firearm has been professionally reconverted back to flintlock and percussion tap is visible. Features include iron mountings with polished metal components, case hardened lock plate with full length military walnut stock with low comb, 3 barrel bands, metal ramrod with button shaped head, bayonet lug on top of barrel at muzzle, sling swivels, brass blade front site located on front barrel band, detachable brass flash pan. Very good condition, metal carries a light patina that has been polished bright. The refinished walnut stock remains in good condition showing a couple longitudinal cracks with dents & handling marks. Stock also shows numerous initials carved into the left side. Hammer & trigger operate correctly. Nice original Harpers Ferry 1816 reconverted Flintlock that would make a fine addition to any collection.
