Spencer Model 1860 Saddle Ring Carbine, Civil War serial number range 42,XXX, .52 Spencer, 7 shot magazine fed with correct 22” round barrel with blade front sight & military ladder rear sight. Features standard markings with visible Spencer address & patent date on top of breech. Top of breech stamped, “SPENCER REPEATING /RIFLE CO. BOSTON. MASS. / PAT’D MARCH 6. 1860.” Visible cartouche on left side of stock behind saddle ring plate. Other various inspector marks are visible on the breech as well as the frame. This Spencer is one of 11,000 that were altered by Springfield Armory after Civil War. These features included the Stabler cutoff forward of the trigger allowing for use of single shot. Very good condition overall, metal surfaces are a pleasing grey, brown & silver patina. The original walnut stocks are in very good condition with no cracks, some usual minor abrasions. Good bore with perfect action. Overall, a fine example of the Model 1860 Spencer Carbine.
